• Save Uttarakhand Forest & Its Biodiversity
It is important because it will cost a lot to Uttarakhand Biodiversity. We already have Tehri Dam & Dhauliganga Dam which produce enough Electricity for Uttarakhand as well as for nearby states. If nothing done the Forest & Wildlife and Aquatic Life of UTTARAKHANd will be at verge to get Extinction. Temperature already rising but after all this the effect will be more. Water sources already been dried (about 60%). Weather is changing. All Weather Road which is been constructed for Badrinath costing 600 Hectares (minimum) of Forest estimate by government reports , although the Forest Department higher Authorities(ministry n other official) are not reliable which will cost more than 1000 Hectares or more... Now we can estimate complete All Weather Road project will cost Thousands of Hectares of Forest. Another is Pancheshwar Dam which will cost 8000 Hectares of Forest... Jemrani Dam will also cost about 2000 Hectares of Forest... And my observation on Deforestation and illegal Construction in Forest area is also costing lots of Forest (approx. 800 Hectares) When adding all for Uttarakhand it's about 12000 Hectares which means Uttarakhand Biodiversity at verge of Extinction. Technically there will be no more Healthy Uttarakhand Biodiversity left... We don't need Development over something that provide Oxygen to Breath, Orovide Food to eat and Provide everything to support life on Earth...

  • don't reduce the green cover
The value of an apple tree doesn’t lie in terms of economy only, but also in its carbon capturing efficiency. The most significant and undisputed problem of the World today is Climate Change, which has resulted due to Global warming. Uncontrolled Carbon emissions in the atmosphere are increasing global warming. All green trees help in carbon capturing, so does the apple tree. As per the one of the reports of New York’s State Apple Research and Development Program, an acre of orchard fixes about 20 tons of CO2 from the air each season, releases 15 tons of oxygen, and provides over 3.4-4 billion BTU’s (equivalent to about 85-90 air conditioners of 10,000 BTU capacity running 24/7 for 6 months) of cooling power. In addition, some carbon is sequestered in the new wood and, roots of the trees. Apple trees also help perpetuate the water cycle by returning water vapors back into the atmosphere. Uprooting such a huge number of apple trees is not a worthy idea. Uprooting of trees are not only resulting in reduction of the carbon capturing capacity from atmosphere, but, also increasing carbon emissions due to its decay. There seems no difference in actions taken by farmers to encroach in forests then, and as ordered by the Court to remove all the encroachments now, as in both the actions there is loss/impact to environment. Hence, Government needs to step in and, find some other desirable alternatives to remove encroachments, so that, the very idea to save environment can be ensured.

  • GREEN EARTH
As industrial and economic activities expand, global environmental problems grow ever more serious. Environmental issues will be as urgent a task for mankind in the 21st century as with overcoming population, food, resources and energy issues. It is very important as it will combat our various problems including climate change , ecosystem and to preserve our Mother Nature .The Peace scholar Elise Boulding (1920 -2010 ) believed that a the future direction of the society is in fact determined by 5 percent who are active and committed .

  • Campaign:Save Our Mula-Mutha River of Pune
This river which starts its journey in the Sahyadri ranges and finally drains into the Bay of Bengal is more ancient than Ganga and Yamuna. In the past, its banks had dense forests with animals like elephants inhabiting there. Like all civilizations, earlier settlers resided near the river banks. Some stone tools were discovered in the area indicating human settlements near its banks as back as 40,000 years. Confluence of two rivers is considered holy in our culture and hence the city located on confluence of Mutha and Mula river came to be known as Punya nagari (Holy City), later Pune. Imagine the current situation of this river. how about life of fish, birds, amphibians, insects etc who live and feed around the river, Imagine the impact on the quality of ground water, think of the last few trees remaining on the banks of this river, what would have been happening to the whole Eco system?

  • Please DO NOT USE AGRICULTURE LANDS for new Capital City in Andhra Pradesh State
Pulling out thousands of acres of Highly Fertile Lands form the farmers to build State Capital will not only push the farmers in to a dangerous zone, but also damage the Ecosystem. In addition, this also creates severe scarcity of Food Grains. The entire stretch of VGTM (Vijayawada, Guntur, Telnali and Mangalagiri) is called "ANNAPURNA" where the farmers produce range of Food Grains from highly fertile lands. We should sustain the name "Food Bowl of India". Now, by pulling out those highly fertile lands for building the state capital will create a serious threat for FARMERS, ENVIRONMENT and creates FOOD SCARCITY. Hence, please stop pulling out agriculture lands for state capital. Instead, look out for an alternate place.

  • Save Groundwater from the Industrial effluents
Dear Sir, At the outset, we received a representation & the documentary evidence from the Sarpanch of Chennampalli Village, Papanaidupet P.O., Yerpedu Mandal, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh State, INDIA requesting us for help to unravel their area Ground Water Pollution crisis. It is reported that M/s. Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. [ http://www.malladi.co.in ] is discharging effluents into a canal, resulting in contamination of the ground water resources. The aggrieved village people are struggling for the past several years to resolve the issue in all possible ways, but in vain. A.P. Pollution Control Board issued closure orders two times I.e., on 10.10.2011 and on 11.9.2014. But the Pharmaceuticals industry officials are managing to run the industry operations, uninterruptedly. Now they got status quo orders Dt. 16.9.2014 from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to continue the industry operations. After perusal of the documentary evidence, we conducted field visit on 2.10.2014. It is observed that the industry’s effluents are coming from a drain and flowing into a canal that leading to the SWARNAMUKHI RIVER. Ground water in that area is totally got polluted. The Chennampalli village people explained the details of their 5 years long struggle. They have organized many agitations and protests. Appeals were submitted to Government authorities, Political Leaders and also to the State Governor. The agitation news was covered in the local news papers on many occasions. The news paper clippings are available for verification. “Our Helping Hands Organization endeavor is to identify the Social problems and inform the same to the suitable and capable authorities / organizations / intellectuals so that the issues can be resolved efficiently. We will be extending cooperation in organizing others plan of action, at field level, as we don't have the funds to operate on our own. Due to personal reasons, we don’t like to solicit for funds, for any purpose, either from individual donors or from Government / other organizations. We prefer to be the facilitators, in the process of the Social Justice. As the issue is now in the A.P. High Court legal progression and the Pharmaceutical Industry continues to discharge to effluents & polluting the environment, the village people are very much worried about their future. We hope, every one will agree with us that the Judiciary procedures generally take very long time to settle any problem. Further, the High Court legal dealings are beyond the perception and ambit of common people. It is also expensive to engage a qualified lawyer to present the case in the High Court, on behalf of the village people. Hence, we hereby place this appeal for structural support......................… Proficient / competent organizations and the intellectuals interested in this issue are requested to come forward to initiate suitable further course of action and protect the environment from the pollution being caused by the Pharmaceutical industry. This has become essential as the Pollution Control Board’s efforts to stop the effluents flow, for the past 3 years, are unsuccessful. Our Helping Hands organization is prepared to organize and perform any other organisation / Intellectuals plan of action, at the field level. Regards, Helping Hands

  • Environment Minister, Do NOT allow risky GM field trials in India
    - There is no scientific consensus on the long term health impacts of GM crops. Running GM open field trials can affect people around it. - GM crops like Bt Cotton have failed over the last 10 years to even increase the yield(the whole purpose of it). Why this desperation to include GM food crops on our soil now? - Once released in the environment, GM crops are hard to be contained and crops around it can be contaminated. - The GM crops are patented by companies like Monsanto. This means that farmers have to pay royalty for growing crops. Why should we allow corporations to have monopoly on our seeds? BJP and its manifesto promised the citizens of this country a precautionary approach on GMOs. But are they stepping back from their promise? Countries like Russia and China, along with many European countries have taken tough steps against GM crops acknowledging long term health impacts. Why should we be a testing ground for companies like Monsanto? This is a fight that needs huge support from within the country. JOIN by signing this petition to protect our food, and ensuring that risky GM food field trials do not take place on Indian soil. Sustainable development will ensure a safe and wholesome future for the generations to come. The real threat to India’s future is the companies who are exploiting India’s resources and displacing millions of people -- not the people like me arguing for a more sustainable path.

  • Illegal toxic dumping in Kerala affecting local community and children
My community is facing a serious threat from this company; I see that a lot of people in my community dying with cancer and what’s worse I see children born with disorders and diseases. The water in the wells has been affected and has turned acidic. The river in which the company discharged effluents provides drinking water to neighbouring towns, passes through major heritage temples in Trichur such as Arattupuzha and Triprayar. What’s more troublesome and disturbing is that this river connects to the beach in Chavakkad near Guruvayur and hence would affect marine lives as well. Our community has been protesting for years and have been fighting the battle with this company. The youth in our community have had rely hunger strike and held press conferences for this issue however we need more support to get as many people on board. There has been a non-violent strike for more than 50 days and the hunger strike has crossed 24 days. Please sign this petition and support our fight against this company. • OILY MOILY NEEDS TO GO!
This is completely unacceptable – the Minister must resign right now and his decisions must be reviewed. Can you imagine generations of Indians living with their forests, animals and biodiversity wiped out? Because believe it or not, this is the path Mr. Veerappa Moily is taking us on. And this is an irreversible process that will not benefit the people of India in any way. And only serves the interests of a few corporate players and I refuse to accept that. Support me in asking the Prime Minister to sack Mr. Moily NOW!
