To: The Prime Minister

Speedy clearance of 70 projects within a span of 20 days by the Environment Minister is outrageous. From what I understand, it’s the Environment and Forest Minister’s job to protect our nation’s forests and not go on a rampant clearing spree. Not only that, he hasn’t even bothered to share the list of cleared projects with the larger public.

To me, this is unacceptable and that’s why I’ve started this petition. Because the more I think about it, the more I see how this move smacks of scant regard for the people of the country. And we’ve got to do something about it.

I demand the immediate resignation of Mr. Veerappa Moily, Minister for Environment and Forests because
a) It reeks of a corrupt connection between the private companies and the Government, and
b) Mr. Moily’s decisions undermine the various legislation that his party routinely showcases as their biggest achievements, namely the Forest Conservation Act and the Forest Rights Act.

I feel the appointment of the Oil Minister to the additional charge of the Environment Ministry is a bad move and should never have been allowed.

Why is this important?

This is completely unacceptable – the Minister must resign right now and his decisions must be reviewed.
Can you imagine generations of Indians living with their forests, animals and biodiversity wiped out? Because believe it or not, this is the path Mr. Veerappa Moily is taking us on. And this is an irreversible process that will not benefit the people of India in any way. And only serves the interests of a few corporate players and I refuse to accept that. Support me in asking the Prime Minister to sack Mr. Moily NOW!

Reasons for signing

  • To do something for environment is my passion, i am a research scholar and studying about environment issues because i feel its high time ,our environment should be protected for us to sustain.
  • If we don't protect our forests and environment now, it is going to be very, very late ion the future. So think Globally, act locally.
  • the congress party people are all set to gain with corruptions, why otherwise could he sanction so many projects ? how much has gone in the coffers of congress and his own account? by the way ai am not affileated to any party

In a bid to make the UPA government appear investor-friendly, M. Veerappa Moily gives green clearance to 73 projects, including the controversial Posco steel plant, within 20 days of assuming office, ignoring community forest rights and raising concerns about serious damage to the environment.
